Death Battle Analysis: Boba Fett (OLD)

Note: This will be including both Legends and Canon material for Fett also haha I’m releasing this in May but not on the 4th or 5th

Background

Boba was created into the galaxy as a clone of the legendary bounty hunter Jango Fett on the planet Kamino. Unlike his clone brothers, Boba would be a pure genetic copy as demanded by Jango who had wanted an unaltered clone he could raise as his son and be his heir. Jango would teach Boba many of the skills he had learned in his Bounty Hunting career and even occasionally bring Boba with him on his missions, giving him a taste of what the galaxy truly holds beyond the isolated ocean planet.

However, things would forever change for both Fetts when they were forced to flee Kamino after Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi had discovered Jango to be behind the assassination attempt on Padmé Amidala. The father and son would make their way to the planet Geonosis where the Separatist Leaders who had contracted Jango were gathering, it was on this planet that Boba would witness his father be beheaded by Jedi Master Mace Windu. By the time the battle had left the Geonosian arena all that had remained was a boy. A boy cradling his dead father’s helmet. A boy who had now wanted nothing more but revenge.

Boba would follow in Jango’s footsteps and become a bounty hunter even in his young age, going on many missions and working with other bounty hunters such as when he had attempted to assassinate Mace Windu aboard the Endurance and later working with former Sith apprentice Asajj Ventress on the mission to Quarzite which…ended pretty embarrassing for him. This would be far from the last embarrassing defeat Boba would go through.

But these experiences along with the mentoring from legendary bounty hunters like Aurra Sing and Cad Bane plus marrying an 18 year old woman when he was 16 and then having a divorce when things shockingly went very poorly in a number of ways. Legends everybody would help mold Boba into the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Though it is quite a bit unfortunate that Windu, the person Boba had wanted to kill more than anything he was not able to kill himself, but hey at least they're dead right?

Eventually, Fett’s skills would lead to him being frequently employed by the gangster Jabba the Hutt as well as the Galactic Empire. Boba would even come to be known as Vader’s “right-hand man” and would be the one to track the Millennium Falcon to Bespin and collect the bounty on its owner, the infamous smuggler Han Solo, transporting him to Jabba’s palace on the desert planet Tatooine. However, things would take a very, very, disastrous turn when Solo’s friends would come to save him. One thing led to another and during a skirmish Boba’s jetpack would accidentally be struck by a blind Han Solo, causing it to ignite and send Fett tumbling into the Sarlacc Pit to be slowly digested for over a thousand years. An unceremonious and humiliating end to the galaxy’s deadliest bounty hunter…or it would’ve been! If you didn’t know a thing about merchandising!

Boba’s path from here on would take two very different turns depending on the timeline.

In the Legends timeline, Fett was able to escape the Sarlacc with his jetpack though the injuries he sustained inside the creature would eventually lead to him losing a leg and having to get it replaced with a prosthetic attachment. Boba would later meet and follow through on a promise that Mandalorian Fenn Shysa made to him. Become Mandalore. Ascending to the leadership of the Mandalorian Protectors and ending his lifelong career of bounty hunting, Boba would lead the Mandalorians through wars and aid the New Republic. Boba would even come to make peace with Han and train his daughter Jaina Solo to kill her brother, Darth Caedus. As it’s not truly Star Wars unless there’s some kind of family drama.

In the Canon timeline, Fett escaped by using his flamethrower to burn through the Sarlacc and dig his way out, collapsing from exhaustion shortly after. Fett’s body would soon be found by Jawas who would strip his armor off him and leave him for dead on the hot sands of Tatooine. Eventually, Boba was discovered by a Tusken Raider tribe who held him captive but through his actions, Boba would come to gain their respect and later be treated as one of their own. But tragedy would soon strike yet again for Boba when he would one day return to the Tusken camp to see the entire tribe slaughtered.

Boba would later come to work with Master Assassin Fennec Shand who helped him retrieve his starship which allowed Boba to track down the person currently holding his armor, Din Djarin. Despite starting on a bad foot, Boba and Din would become good friends with Boba coming to Din’s aid after he had returned Fett his armor. With his armor finally reclaimed, Boba returned to Jabba’s Palace to kill Bib Fortuna who had taken control after his master’s death and would establish himself as Daimyo of Mos Espa, forming the Fett gotra.

Equipment

Mandalorian Armor

Boba inherited the modified Mandalorian armor from his father Jango after his death. Forged in Beskar (Duraplast in Legends), a metal durable enough to shrug off blaster shots and even repel lightsaber strikes, Boba’s armor is essentially a swiss army knife containing nearly every damn thing in the galaxy you’d need for bounty hunting. This includes a display in the gauntlets that was connected to Imperial Enforcement DataCore to help Boba locate bounties, a chain code in the left gauntlet containing information about the armor’s owners, as well as a retractable wrist blade in the right gauntlet.

As bounty hunting also tends to lead individuals into the cruelest environments the galaxy has to offer, it’s also helpful that Fett wears a power armor liner that gives him a micro energy field that not only helps protect from fire, acid or intense heat and cold, but also disperses physical and blast impacts ensuring that knocking him down will be extremely difficult.

Helmet

Boba’s helmet includes a multitude of features such as the ability to record video, compensate automatically for low or high light conditions, as well as pick up on and amplify sounds. The helmet also had several ways of protecting Fett depending on his current environment like sealing itself to compensate for pressure changes, dispensing water, and filtering out poisons or other contaminants with its environmental filter system, providing Boba a two-hour oxygen reserve.

The helmet’s antenna could intercept and unscramble commlink transmissions as well as send its own fake transmissions, should he need to he can also summon his ship from up to 90 kilometers away. The top of the antenna also had a targeting rangefinder that’s capable of tracking 30 targets at once from a distance of 100 meters, this rangefinder sent data to a display overlay inside the helmet giving Boba the range and movement of targets in a 360 degree radius.

The iconic t-shaped visor even includes an infrared scanner which along with all of the helmet’s other features ensures there will be no escape for the poor soul that happens to be his target.

ZX miniature flame projector

A weapon used by many Mandalorians and Bounty Hunters across Star Wars, Fett carries a flamethrower in his left gauntlet. Connected to the fuel tank in his jet pack giving it enough fuel for 3 minutes of use, the ZX fires a deadly 5 meter long flame that is capable of cooking armored Stormtroopers alive.

Flamethrowers were even known for being particularly useful against fighting Jedi or any lightsaber wielder as the blade could not block the flames and it takes a skilled force user to be able to deflect them.

Dur-24 wrist laser

Boba’s left gauntlet stores a wrist laser that combines the firepower of a standard blaster rifle with a range of fifty meters. Fett’s commonly used this after being disarmed of his other blasters.

Whipcord launcher

A Bounty Hunter favorite, Boba’s right gauntlet can fire a thin fibercord whip that wraps around and ensnares its target, making it easier to capture them alive or stun them long enough to go in for the kill. Boba can even fry people with a Bioenergy Disrupter through the whip.

MM9 mini concussion rocket launcher

As if he didn’t have enough crap in his gauntlets Boba also has a wrist rocket launcher in his left gauntlet that utilizes computer target tracking, ensuring once Fett’s pressed the button you are basically done for. The rocket types Boba uses includes the Type-12A anti-personnel rocket which is the one both Fett’s are most often seen using and Type-12B stun rockets which were a rocket dart filled with knockout gas.

Gauntlet Darts

While his father used a dart launcher on his right arm that fired Kamino saberdarts which would later bite the family in the ass, Boba would have them on both of his wrists, with the left wristlet being able to fire poison darts that can completely immobilize a target and force them to move at his command while the right would fire soporific darts. A reminder that while the dude is armed like a killing machine, he does need to bring some bounties alive.

Kneepad rocket dart launcher

Another reminder that every part of Fett’s body can be used to kill you. With a range of 25-meters these kneepad launchers can fire rocket darts with explosive tips that can easily take out stormtroopers as well as darts that carry nerve toxins, molecular acid and stun agents.

Z-6 Jetpack

A model of jetpack often used by Mandalorians, the Z-6 Jetpack could hold enough fuel for one minute of continuous operation which combined with the directional thruster’s gyro-stabilizers that apply counterthrust for maneuvering and landing, give Boba plenty of aerial mobility which is useful when taking on opponents like Jedi. And top it all off the jetpack is even equipped with an anti vehicle homing missile that was capable of bringing down Imperial ships, he’s even successfully used the missile on up close human targets.

It is worth noting the Fett family have a history of bad luck with their jetpacks. After his own Z-6 was destroyed, Jango used a JT-12 during his time on Geonosis which after suffering damage that left it unable to launch, failed to allow Jango escape from Windu’s attack. Meanwhile Boba’s Z-6 was ignited when simply wacked with a stick, sending him flying to his supposed demise.

Knockout Gas

Whenever Boba needs to subdue someone and he doesn’t feel like murdering them he can knock them out with…well knockout gas, it’s even been shown to be able to bypass gas masks.

EE-3 carbine rifle

Boba’s most iconic weapon. The EE-3 is a blaster rifle capable of firing a three round burst at the cost of its accuracy, Boba would modify his by adding a stock and a scope for shooting at a distance.

Amban phase-pulse blaster

The blaster Boba used in his first onscreen appearance The Star Wars Holiday Special…yup. While it hasn’t been shown to be able to disintegrate people like its canon version in The Mandalorian, it’s still a strong weapon that is capable of being used at a mid-range. In the special Fett used the Amban phase-pulse to fight off a Panna Dragon that was previously unharmed by Luke’s blaster pistol.

Concussion grenade launcher

Fett’s been shown to carry a small grenade launcher in a holster on his hip. Despite its small size it fires powerful concussion grenades that Boba used to blast his way out of the Sarlacc in Legends.

Blaster Pistols

When he’s not using his EE-3 Boba’s been shown carrying different types of blaster pistols on him. During his early days as a bounty hunter he used a custom set of WESTAR-34s, the same blaster model that was used by his father. In the Holiday Special and numerous toys he carries the Sacros K-11 also known as “The Disintegrator”, and in his appearance in The Mandalorian he was shown using a currently unnamed blaster model to dispatch of several Stormtroopers, later using it again in The Book of Boba Fett.

Thermal Detonator

Also known as thermal grenades, these weapons were popular among militaries and mercenaries because of their tremendous power. The grenades used adjustable time detonators making it useful as a simple thrown explosive, as traps for unknowing victims, and as a pretty sweet threatening tool against Hutts. It’s even been shown to be able to stick to targets.

Other Grenades

Aside from the iconic Thermos, Fett has also carried around flash grenades, sonic emitters powerful enough to overload PROXY, and sonic disruptors capable of silencing powerful explosions allowing him to stealthily complete his missions. He’s even carried a weapon accelerator that’s able to disintegrate people. (much to Vader’s annoyance)

Gaderffii Stick

A Gaderffii Stick or more commonly known as a Gaffi Stick is the traditional weapon of the Tusken Raiders, made with materials such as Durasteel and Krayt Dragon horns.

After getting close to a Tusken tribe and going on a lizard induced acid trip Boba was eventually able to make a Gaffi stick of his own becoming his melee weapon of choice from then on, with it capable of piercing and shattering Stormtrooper armor.

Lightsaber

It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that the walking action figure who has used basically every weapon in the series managed to get his hand on a lightsaber too. Occasionally taking them as trophies from his Jedi kills in Legends, Fett is one of the few non force sensitive people out there that is capable of using a lightsaber. Though only used as a last resort when fighting Jedi or Sith because of Boba’s only basic skill with the blade, it is still a very deadly weapon in his hands, capable of cutting through almost anything in the galaxy.

Other

Slave 1

Originally owned by Jango, Boba would later come into possession of it and use it to carry on the good ol’ family tradition of killing people. The Slave 1 is a modified Firespray 31-class patrol and attack craft, because of it’s rather unique design it is a ship that takes decent skill to be able to pilot, yet Boba was able to fly it like a pro when he was just a kid…which I suppose is a recurring thing in the Prequels thinking on it. Of course since the ship is owned Boba, the Slave 1 is armed to the teeth with weaponry and countermeasure devices.

After inheriting it from his father, Boba equipped the ship with rotating blaster cannons, missile tube launchers, an ion cannon, proton torpedo launchers, a tractor beam projector, a homing beacon launcher and seismic charges powerful enough to clear asteroids fields.

Rancor

Often viewed as one of the deadliest creatures in the galaxy, Rancor’s are a giant reptilian species often bred for fighting and…well murder but despite all that they have been shown to be surprisingly benign creatures.

Boba would receive a Rancor of his one as a gift from the The Hutt Twins as an apology for maybe trying to assassinate him. With the help of Rancor Keeper Danny fucking Trejo, Boba would eventually learn to ride it LIKE A BANTHA much like the Witches of Dathomir, later using it to turn the tide during the battle for Mos Espa.

Standing around five meters tall with armored hides that could tank blaster fire, the Rancor could easily tear through Scorpenek Droids and their deflector shields like they were made of tissue paper, while also shrugging off their laser cannons. It does appear to possess some fear of fire though as Cad Bane was able to scare it away using his flamethrower with the Rancor going on a rampage without Fett to keep it under control.

Wing-Blast rocket pack

Again. The man is literally a walking action figure. This pack was a deadly one-person weapons system that was used by Mandalorians and is capable of deep-space flight. Packed with missile launchers, heavy blasters and a proton missile canon, Fett made good use of the Wing-Blast rocket pack when he used it to storm Fortress Baarlos and collect the bounty on the gloriously named “Faarl, The Child Conqueror”

I’m just saying Return of the Jedi would’ve been a lot different if Boba came at Luke with this

Abilities

Hand-to-Hand Combat

Boba has been trained in hand-to-hand by multiple people across his life, from his father Jango to the Tusken Raiders who had taught him how to wield a Gaffi Stick. It was these skills that allowed him to make short work of a platoon of stormtroopers using nothing more than a Gaffi Stick, he was even able to outsmart and kill his former mentor Cad Bane with the weapon.

Skilled Marksman

Even as a child Boba could handle a blaster better than most, largely thanks to both his training under Jango and being a clone of him, he even later received training from Aurra Sing, one of the best snipers in the galaxy. His marksman skills are so great that he’s been shown multiple times to be able to shoot someone’s blaster out of their own hand. Whether it be sniping from afar or filling groups of close enemies with blaster holes, Boba’s aim is certainly not to be underestimated.

Hunting Skill

Even with Fett’s arsenal and training making him a whole new meaning of deadly, Boba would never have gotten the reputation he has without his exceptional hunting and tracking skills. When he was as young as 13 his tracking skills had impressed Obi-Wan and later on his career he was able to relentlessly pursue Jedi Apprentice Jaden Korr on Ord Mantell. Not to mention out of all the expert bounty hunters Vader had called in to capture Han, Boba was the one who was able to track him down.

Telepathy resistance

Boba’s will has been shown to be “most impressive” being able to temporarily resist Vader’s mind control long enough to shoot him in the head. Even Quinlan Vos didn’t bother to influence Boba’s mind with the force as he believed his mind was too strong.

Feats

Strength/Attack Potency

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

For as impressive as his feats and arsenal are, Boba suffers from what might be one of the most embarrassing defeats in cinema. If being beaten by your blind adversary who was completely unaware of your presence and then being eaten by a giant sand vagina wasn’t pathetic enough he would even later fall into the Sarlacc AGAIN in the Legends timeline. It’s amazing the dude became such a huge pop culture icon with a defeat as lame as that, 5 lines total, and less than 3 minutes of screentime in the trilogy.

Joking aside, while Fett’s armor does protect him from most weapons they cannot shield him from everything. Strong enough shots can still stun or even fatally injure those in Beskar armor. Din Djarin, a Mandalorian who had also had an armor made of Beskar was almost killed by an explosion, while his armor was unharmed it couldn't fully protect the man inside from the “force” of the blast (ugh). The armor also does not cover his entire body and areas like his legs are unshielded from attacks.

Random Fun Facts

  • Contrary to popular belief his very first appearance ever wasn’t actually the Holiday Special but at the San Anselmo Country Fair parade. Only a few months before the Special.

  • Believes sex between those not married is immoral

  • Has sick dance moves

  • Built like Ben Swolo

  • For some reason in Battlefront 2 Classic he uses an E-11 Blaster even though the game calls it the EE-3 this has bothered me immensely since I was 4 years old playing this game and it has lived in my mind rent free for my entire life and has never lef-

  • Mark Hamill once pitched the idea of making Boba Fett Luke’s mom

  • Had a planned game that looked really cool and explored parts of Star Wars that people have been wanting to see more of aaaaand its canceled

  • In Legends, word of his humiliating defeat eventually spread around and made its way into “Deal-slang”, jargon used by con men and other scoundrels throughout the galaxy. The expression “boba-ize” meant to do something stupid which could potentially jepardize or ruin a deal. Yeahhhh Boba is never gonna live that shit down

"I'm a simple man making his way through the galaxy. Like my father before me."

Possible Opponents

Predator

duh

Sledge

I’m not too familiar with Sledge as I’ve never actually seen Power Rangers Dino Charge but from what I’ve been told him vs Boba is pretty solid, largely thanks to Sledge very likely being based off Boba. I can’t really comment on this that much but I will say that out of all the ideas I’ve seen for Boba this is probably my favorite alternative if it’s not Predator.

Before we go

Special Thanks to Tman and The Black Shulk for reading this and giving it a thumbs up and to Phantom for doing that as well providing some of the calcs.

I have a ton of ideas for blogs I want to do in the future and even have a few in the backburner right now, I’m not sure which one will drop next but I do want to get them out sooner rather than later. As for what those blogs will be, well here’s a few hints
